I’ve always loved brocantes. They remind me of the I Spy books I spent hours with as a child, searching every corner of the page for something I hadn’t noticed before. The longer you look, the more the picture changes. A forgotten clock. A porcelain bird. A bicycle. A chair that seems to have been waiting for you all along. Every brocante feels like that. A place where objects that have lived many lives gather together, each carrying a story that no one can quite remember and anyone can imagine. Among the clutter are treasures waiting to be found. This photograph was made in one such brocante in Paris. The frame and matte board surrounding it were found there as well, allowing the place to become part of the work itself. Printed on Hahnemühle Photo Rag®
